Description

The Atlas Air Force AF8 is a 5-horsepower, 80-gallon two-stage commercial air compressor built for the 3-to-4-person auto shop — and for the one-person shop preparing for growth — that needs shop air to deliver flawlessly every working day. A two-cylinder, two-stage pump paired with a low-RPM 5 HP belt-driven motor (1750 RPM) cycles between 145 and 175 PSI and puts out 20 CFM at 145 PSI and 19 CFM at 175 PSI — enough to keep impact wrenches, sanders, and more than one air tool running at once.

Air is stored in a USA-made 80-gallon vertical steel tank rated to 200 PSI, leaving headroom above the 175 PSI cut-out. The vertical design stands 71 inches tall on a 40-by-24-inch footprint, so it lines up against a wall instead of taking a bay.

Atlas Air Force AF8 callout view: air filters, 5 HP motor, magnetic starter, air valve, water drain valve; 71 in tall, 40 in wide
AF8 component callouts with 71-inch height and 40-inch footprint.

The AF8 runs on 220-volt, single-phase power and needs a 30-amp breaker on #10 wire — a circuit most working shops already have or can add without a full service upgrade. A factory Eaton magnetic starter manages the electrical input on every start, which protects the motor and adds to the unit's service life. An industrial-grade Hubbell pressure switch handles the cut-in and cut-out.

Reciprocating compressors have a reputation for noise; the AF8 is built to run quietly enough for indoor shop use. A set of vibro-isolation pads ships with the unit to damp vibration between each tank foot and the floor, and a finned tank inlet tube helps cut water accumulation inside the tank.
